Your skin is the biggest organ you possess, therefore it's important to take care of it. Radiant skin is often viewed as a symbol of wellness and energy. Conversely, dull or dehydrated skin can leave you feeling less confident.

Here are 10 products and lifestyle modifications you can incorporate into your beauty and skin care routine. The great thing is, most of the things required can be easily found in your pantry, kitchen, or medicine cabinet.

Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and healing properties. However, it may not be suitable for all skin types and those with coconut allergies should avoid using it.

For those who can tolerate it, coconut oil can be utilized in various ways, such as removing makeup, soothing the skin, and promoting a healthy, dewy complexion. Research has shown that coconut oil is an effective moisturizer. To try it, massage a small amount onto your face, let it absorb for a few minutes, and then wash off with your regular cleanser.

2. Use aloe vera to keep skin strong and healthy


Aloe vera has the ability to heal and potentially promote the growth of new cells. Additionally, it provides soothing and moisturizing benefits without blocking pores. Incorporating aloe vera into your daily skincare routine by applying it to your face after washing may give your skin a healthy appearance. 

However, it is important to note that some individuals may be allergic to aloe vera. To test for an allergic reaction, try applying a small amount to your forearm and wait for 24 hours to see if there is a reaction. If there is no reaction, it is likely safe to use.

3. Moisturize properly after washing your face


To achieve a radiant and youthful complexion, it is important to moisturize your skin with products that provide long-lasting hydration, support the healing process, and contain antioxidants. Avoid exfoliating when your skin feels dry and do not neglect moisturizing even if your skin appears oily.

For maximum hydration, apply moisturizer to your skin when it is still damp, either after a shower or after rinsing your face. This helps to seal in additional moisture, rather than just temporarily smoothing the surface of your skin.

4. Wear sunscreen daily


Using a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher can help protect against skin cancer. By blocking harmful UV rays, you can also reduce the effects of photoaging, which is the premature aging of the skin.

It is important to apply a product containing sunscreen every morning, regardless of weather conditions. This includes cloudy or rainy days, as UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds.

5. Find a cleansing routine that works

Over-washing can strip your skin of its natural moisture and cause your pores to produce excess oil. On the other hand, washing too infrequently can lead to buildup of dirt, oil, and impurities.

For optimal skin health, it is recommended to wash your face after exercise, in the morning, and before bedtime. This frequency of washing provides a good balance between removing excess oil and sweat and preserving your skin's natural moisture.

6. Avoid smoke and secondhand smoke

Exposure to cigarette smoke can subject your skin to harmful chemical toxins, increasing the oxidative stress in your skin cells and causing premature aging. If you are a smoker, consider the impact on your skin as another compelling reason to quit.

7. Drink more water

To maintain healthy skin, it is important to drink plenty of water as your skin is composed of cells that require hydration to function properly. Although the exact relationship between water consumption and skin health is still being studied, a 2015 study found a strong correlation between drinking more water and having healthier skin. It is recommended to drink at least 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water daily.

8. Eat to nourish your skin

A diet rich in fruits and vegetables can increase the levels of vitamins and antioxidants in your body, contributing to overall health. The Mayo Clinic suggests consuming healthy fats such as those found in fish oils and avoiding processed foods with many preservatives, as these habits may have a direct impact on the appearance of healthier skin.

In addition, a 2014 study found that probiotics can also contribute to healthy hair and radiant skin.

10. Shorten your shower

Steaming and heat can unclog pores and rid the skin of toxins, however prolonged exposure to very hot water can remove oil from the skin, leading to a tired and dull complexion. To avoid this, it is recommended to minimize the skin's exposure to extremely hot water.

Lowering the temperature towards the end of your shower can improve blood circulation, giving your face a more toned and youthful appearance. This simple change in your routine may also have the added benefit of boosting your immune system.

One of the many advantages of my job is that I get to travel to different places and encounter new cultures throughout the year. I am extremely thankful for these experiences, but they do have a drawback, especially on my skin. Our skin is often neglected even though it is the largest organ on our body and we live in it. The harsh conditions during air travel, such as the dry air from air conditioning on long flights, can cause itchy and dry skin. Additionally, my skin is constantly exposed to varying and often harsh environments when I travel, including changes in humidity, dry weather, and rain.

In recent years, I have made a significant effort to take care of my skin. I have noticed a remarkable improvement by approaching skincare from the inside out. In addition to external skin care, the most significant change can come from nourishing your skin cells from within. Here are some tips for achieving radiant skin from the inside out!

1. What to eat


We have all heard the saying, "You are what you eat," but few of us fully understand the impact of our diet on our overall health, energy, and appearance. The most effective way to achieve glowing skin from within is by incorporating a variety of superfoods into your diet. 

Vitamin C is a potent superfood and antioxidant, essential for a strong immune system and healthy, radiant skin. Fortunately, vitamin C is easily found in many fruits and vegetables, such as oranges, blueberries, papaya, strawberries, kiwi, and sweet potatoes. 

One simple way to add some of these to your diet is by mixing blueberries with yogurt or cereal for breakfast. Eating foods high in healthy fats, such as avocado, nuts, and seeds, can also bring many benefits and keep you feeling full for longer.

2. What to drink


To ensure I consume the recommended daily water intake of 13 cups for men and 9 cups for women, I keep two 1-liter bottles of water in the refrigerator and drink from them throughout the day. By the time I finish both bottles, I know that I have met my daily water needs and my skin is properly hydrated.

- Coconut Water 

I recently discovered the benefits of coconut water, which has exceptional hydrating properties and is a good source of vitamin C, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. I have become a big fan of coconut water and I know I'm not alone, as Victoria Beckham is also a fan.

- Fresh Juices 

Juices and smoothies are an excellent way to get multiple nutrients in one serving. The vitamins and nutrients they provide are beneficial for healing and maintaining healthy skin. To avoid preservatives and added sugars that can harm the skin, try making your own juices and smoothies instead of buying from stores.

3. What to put on your face

Yes, most creams and ointments are applied topically, but only the high-quality products can improve your skin's health from within. It's worth investing in these types of products as they penetrate the skin and deliver results from the inside out.

- Consider using masks to rejuvenate your skin. Masks can hydrate your skin deeply, extract excess oil, remove dead skin cells, and increase moisture levels.

- Keep in mind that your face has different areas with different needs. - Choosing the right oils for your skin is important. Although an excess of oil on the skin is not desirable, natural oils can play a crucial role in maintaining skin health. If you struggle with dry, flaky skin due to changes in the weather, seek out products that contain Hyaluronic acid. This ingredient can leave your skin feeling refreshed and radiant by eliminating dryness. You might think you have dry, oily, or sensitive skin, but are you sure? Knowing your actual skin type is important when choosing skincare products. Using the wrong products or even popular internet remedies can actually make skin problems like acne or dryness worse.

Learn how to:

  • Develop a personalized skincare routine
  • Address specific skin issues such as acne or scars
  • Avoid harmful DIY skin treatments, even if they appear to be effective.

- CleansingSelect a cleanser that doesn't strip your skin of its natural oils and leave it feeling tight. If you have dry skin and don't wear makeup, cleansing once a day is enough. Avoid washing your face until it feels squeaky clean as this can remove your skin's natural oils. Cleansers that are suitable for all skin types include Cetaphil and Banila Clean It Zero Sherbet Cleanser.

- Serums: In the morning, use a serum with Vitamin C, growth factors, or peptides and apply it before applying sunscreen. At night, retinol or prescription retinoids work best. Makeup Artist's Choice has effective Vitamin C and E serums and retinol available for use.

- Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 fifteen minutes before going outside, as it takes time for the sunscreen to become effective. People with darker skin tones actually need more sun protection because it is more difficult to correct hyperpigmentation. Consider using EltaMD's sunscreen, which provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation.
